Mentor Q & A

Help! My cat is spraying all over the house. Why is he doing this? What can I do to make him stop?
My cat refuses to use the litter box. In fact, it seems he’ll go anywhere but in the litter box.
My 3-year-old cat rarely meows - should I be concerned? She can go weeks without making a sound.
Why does my cat roll over to the other side when he is lying down, like a dog rolling over?
My cat drastically changed its behavior after he’s been ill and on antibiotics while I was on vacation. I’ve heard that the antibiotics may have changed his behavior. Is this true?
Why do cats seem to like plastic bags so much? Is there a chemical in the bags that is an attractant like catnip? How do I break them from eating it?
I recently adopted two adult male cats (from different sources). Both urinate standing up, which is something I have never seen before. The litter boxes are always clean. Why is this? Can I do anything about it?
What can I do to keep stray and wild cats from spraying and destroying my backyard?
I adopted two healthy 2-month-old non-litter mate kittens a month ago. After about 10 days, the male kitten began chasing, holding down and suckling on the female. How should I stop it? I have separated them but he does it all the time now - at first she was distressed but seems resigned now. Will he outgrow it?
Why do female cats meow and screech during the day and in the middle of the night while being in heat?
My cat has taken to hunting and eating cockroaches. Are there any risks to my kitty eating them?
Why doesn’t my cat cover up her urine and bowel movements in her litterbox---ever?
Just last week our cat started rubbing her behind on the carpet. What could be the reason for this?
My friend's kitten does a strange thing like hop around sometimes on her hind legs - even her hind legs look like a rabbit's. Does this mean she may be a mix of two different animal species or what?
It is okay for a kitten to be twitching its fur like almost every minute?
My 4 year old male cat is licking and biting his back too much and it is raw and bleeding. How do I heal it?
Do kittens eat their own stool?
Is it normal for a cat to sneeze?
My cat has a sensitive spot on his back and when rubbed or scratched there it stimulates him to lick uncontrollably. He is so sensitive that we cannot touch him anywhere below the neck or his entire back tightens up and he begins licking uncontrollably. It clearly causes him a great deal of stress and makes him quite miserable. I have tried massaging him to relax his muscles but the more I touch him the more his muscles become rigid and he cannot stop licking. I have no idea what to do for him. Help!
What could cause my cat to growl, hiss and bite at her back, and tail and hind leg? It seems as though she is mad at it, or in pain. She is 1-1/2 and unspayed. She has had a check up recently, and they say she is fine.
I have a big problem with my three cats. I have one female spayed at 6 months old and 2 males, neutered when approx. 12 wks. old. The last 6 to 10 months they have been spraying "EVERYWHERE.” Nothing has changed environmentally or any other manner. My question is, if my (personally myself) emotional character changed, could that effect them?
One of our male cats, Buzbee, has a strange behavior. He was a stray we have had for about 2 years, we think he is about 4 years old. At times, when he is in another room of the house, by himself, he will meow in the low scared meow you hear when you take your cat to the vet. We have found that by calling him a few times he then runs into the room we are in and he seems ok. Is he getting lost in our house or have a fear of being left? Should we be concerned? Since he calms down when we call him I think there is nothing to worry about, but I want to be sure.
