Mentor Q & A

Why do cat's eyes glow in the dark?
Can cats see color or just black and white?
My cat has a white film on her eyes. Is something wrong? It started from the corner of her eyes.
Any idea what is going on when a cat’s third eyelid covers his eye for no reason?
We have a cat that doesn't seem to have any pupils. Otherwise, she is very healthy. She seems to see some movement. Can you tell me what she can see, and is there any concern about her continued well being?
My outdoor cat seems to have his third eyelid showing. What’s wrong with him?
Why does my cat get moist black crust under his eyes? What is this stuff?
What causes the second eyelid to come up? Both of my cats have this problem. Also, their eyes can look glassy, and only halfway open.
Is it okay that my cat has a little bit of black discharge at the corner of her eyes?
My cat's eyes do not glow in the dark. Does that mean she can't see in the dark? Or she can't see as well as other cats whose eyes glow in the dark?
My cat was diagnosed with cataracts. What should I know about dealing with progressive vision loss?
My cat is 8 years old. I was wondering if cats can lose their eyesight as they get older?
Is it true cats' vision is fuzzy? If so how is it determined? My cats see well enough to jump on top of new objects.
My cat has trouble seeing the screen door we have. What causes this problem?
You know when you catch a cat in your headlights and their eyes shine green or amber? My cat has two eyes, but only one reflects any light...the other is just black... does this mean she's blind in one eye?
I have a Siamese/Burmese mix that the vet has estimated is between 10 and 12 years old. I have had her for 3 years. For the years that I have had her I have noticed that her pupils are extremely large and never seem to contract. She seems to see quite well and my vet says he doesn't see anything wrong with her vision. She tends to stare at 'nothing' quite a lot and ignores the laser pointer while the other cats are furiously chasing the dot of light. But she has no problems getting around and sees quite well when it's time to pounce on the other cats or watch birds in the window. She doesn't squint in bright sunlight and has no problems tearing around at night in the dark. Is this just a 'normal' condition for her pupils or should I be looking out for impending blindness?
Do cats’ eyes change color as they age because my cat has gold colored eyes?
Why are cats' eyes (pupils) similar to a snake's?
My kitten's eyes are brown. Why aren't many cat's eyes brown?
I just adopted a male cat a couple of days ago and the first day I noticed that his eye would water sometimes not all the time, I don’t think. He literally looks like he is crying, his eyes will drip only a little. I was wondering if he has allergies. If so can I do anything to stop this from continuing to happen, if anything at all? Can you help?
I have a calico cat who has a lot of trouble with mucus buildup on her eyes. She looks miserable and fights me when I try to wipe them clean. My vet said that calicos are genetically prone to eye problems. I was wondering if this is true or maybe it is an allergic reaction.
How long does it take for a kitten's eyes to develop?
In photos, my cat's eyes reflect green, but human's eyes reflect red. Why?
