Mentor Q & A

How does a housecat hear better than we do?
I've heard that most cats that are solid white with blue eyes are deaf. Well, my cat is solid white with golden eyes and he is totally deaf. None of the other kittens in the litter are deaf. Nothing happened to him when he was born or since we've had him to make him this way. Could you explain to me why my cat is the deaf one? He is very loving but a bit territorial. Is this normal?
I wanted to know if a silent dog whistle affects a cat's ears the same way it does a dog's?
Do you clean out cats’ ears?
Our 16-year-old cat has polyps in her ears. She has had them surgically removed twice within the last 5 years. She gets frequent yeast infections in her ears - something that has been ongoing all her life. What causes the polyps? Our vet advised that they occur in predominately white cats - she happens to be white with some calico markings. The best part is that she didn't purr audibly until her first surgery - now she doesn't stop!
