Mentor Q & A

Help! My cat is destroying my house. How can I stop her from clawing the furniture, carpets, and curtains?
I have two 2-year-old male neutered cats that are brothers. One is very dominant and bites the other on the back. It has gotten so the less dominant cat sleeps most of the day (I think to keep away from his dominant brother). Is there anything I can do to keep the one cat from biting the other cat?
Whenever we have company over or a delivery person or any stranger, my cat becomes very aggressive. He fluffs his tail and arches his back and has bitten two people at different times. Is there anything that can correct this problem without having to lock him up in another room?
My three year old spayed female cat has licked her belly clean of fur and now is working on her legs. Our daughter is now 16 months - that's the only change I can think of that could affect her. I work out of the house. Could she need a kitty of her own?
We have two cats, one we kept at my sister's house for two days. When we went to take her home she got loose in the strange neighborhood. Now my other cat won't eat and wants attention 24/7. What can I do?
My cat gets into the garbage disposal at every chance he gets. He always has plenty of food and we play with him often. What is the problem and how do we get him to stop? I've even tried putting a plug in the sink but he pulls it out.
Our cat shreds rolls of toilet paper no matter if it is on the roller, the counter or sitting in a drawer that is not completely closed. What can we do about it? If my cat eats the toilet paper, is it harmful to him?
Why does my cat scratch furniture?
My year old cat has a habit of carrying things (not his) around the house and hiding them. How can I stop this behavior?
One of my 2 neutered males is shy and the other one is not very nice to him. Is there any way to stop this from happening?
How can I keep my cat from hurling herself high into the screen door instead of just meowing when she wants to come in/go out?
About seven years ago, someone had dropped a pregnant cat off in our yard. We couldn't find homes for the kittens, so we kept them. Even though they have all grown up together and with my oldest kitty, one of the cats picks on one of his siblings. He growls at him, and attacks him. The other cat just lets him do this. The attacking cat gets along great with the other cats. He adores my oldest cat. Why won't he get along with the cat he attacks?
My cat stalks my daughter and I and then bites our ankles. She draws blood most of the time! She never does this to my son or my husband. We have tried several different methods of discipline, but nothing seems to work. I sometimes feel that she dislikes me, even though she follows me around all day and sleeps with me at night (and yes, if I poke my toes out of the covers at night, she will bite them!) Why does she do this and why does she only do it to the females in the family?
I have a one-year-old cat. I found out I’m pregnant and he has become very aggressive and does not want anyone but me to touch him. He is also becoming very territorial. Can you help me get my old Kitty back? He’s never ever been mean. He usually loves everyone.
I have a large household of cats (9 cats) and they are all picking on one cat They are all from the same parents, but the cat that is picked on is pure black in color and the others are tuxedos and tigers and a tortie. Can someone explain the behavior and how I can stop it?
How can I stop my 1-year-old cat from digging in the blankets? It is not like she is kneading, her behavior is more like digging.
My cat has always been shy to my husband but lately she has been snapping at him more than normal. He is gone from time to time and the last time it took two weeks before she would act normal to him. But once I come around she turns on him. Is it possible that she is jealous of him since I spend less time with her when he is around? Is there anything we can do to stop her from turning on him?
I have a 6 1/2 yr old female spayed cat. I got her spayed when she was in heat. The problem started when she first started going into heat: she drags things like socks, bibs, blankets, etc. out at night. Every morning, my house looks like a tornado blew through it! She makes this howling noise while she is doing it. If she drags my throw blanket out she starts kneading it! One time I found that she had wet on it.
I have a full-grown kitty that seems very sensitive to touch. She seems to want attention but when I pet her she cannot sit still and often jumps away. She is also very flirtatious with strangers! At times she seems to like strangers more than me. What is this all about?
Someone has always been home with Bubbha, but now we both work. Despite all his toys, he tears through the house knocking over furniture and knocking pictures off the walls and tearing down my curtains. How do we get him to stop and understand that we are coming home, we only have to be gone an hour?
My cat is an outside and inside cat and when I take him outside on a leash he hisses and scratches me when I pet him or pick him up. Why is he so aggressive towards me outside but not inside?
Every once in awhile one of my cats will 'freak out,' his tail will puff to twice its usual size and he will run around the apartment crying and meowing, jump to the highest place he can find and paw at the ceiling. I can't tell if he just hears noises from upstairs or if it’s something else. (He's fixed and so is my other cat.) He always calms down after a few minutes. Nothing in particular seems to set this off.
We have a three and a half year old male cat and for the majority of his life he has "smacked" me on various body parts, mainly the arms or face. This happens when I'm in bed sleeping or sitting on a chair. For no reason he will attack me. Can you please help me to figure out why he does this? I've never known of a cat to do this.
