 Cat Talk

Mentor Q & A

Sometimes when I'm playing with my cat, she starts to flick her tail back and forth. What is she trying to tell me?
Our cat is extremely vocal and it seems as though she has a variety of "words" that she uses when she wants something. Is this normal for a cat?
My cat seems to have a lot of different facial expressions, can you explain what they mean?
Why do cats meow? Sometimes I feel like my cat is trying to talk to me.
How do I know that my cat loves me?
Is it true that cats are able to sense when their human 'mommy' is not feeling well? When I am not feeling well, my cat never leaves my side and although she is extremely affectionate, she is even more so during these times.
How can I gently tell my cat that "I don't have time right now” to pet and scratch her? She wants constant attention and I enjoy petting and scratching her, but she never wants me to stop.
Why do cats wag their tails? Is there any special meaning to the tail wagging?
Why does my cat always put his nose up to mine as if he is trying to tell me something?
My cat rolls over all the time, just like a dog. Does this mean he wants attention or wants to play with me?
Why does my cat cry when I leave home?
Our female cat (who is not fixed), continuously fixates her eyes on my boyfriend to be picked up or petted, jump on his lap and follows him everywhere. Is there a reason for this strange behavior? The other cat is a male (not fixed, her brother) and he bugs her all the time. Does this have anything to do with it. Our male cat (not fixed) tends to meow a lot, especially the morning and late at night. Is he trying to communicate something to us?
I have a 5-year-old Bengal male that is fixed and will ‘scream’ all the time, usually late at night or early in the morning. He seems to like to feed on green grass and he will never puke eating all the grass. I have to put him in a cat carrier on my porch at night in order to get some sleep at night. He is very loud and can wake up the neighbors without much effort. He never seems to tire of screaming.
My cat used to talk all the time when he was a kitten, but has grown out of it, why?
How do cats communicate to humans?
I've heard that when a cat slowly blinks his eyes to another cat, it means that he/she is comfortable with them...kind of like an 'I love you'. My cat sometimes slowly blinks when he looks at me, and I try to do the same back...am I communicating with my cat on a 'cat level'?
My 8-week-old kitten gets very temperamental when she wants to take a nap. If I am sitting on the couch watching TV she likes to sit on me to sleep, but if I speak at all, she gets upset and looks up at my face and starts meowing angrily. The TV could be at top volume and it doesn't bother her one bit. When I stop talking she calms down and goes back to sleep. Why does she do this?
My cat is about 8 months old. I constantly tell him I love you and give me a kiss. He seems to understand, and looks so affectionate towards me. Can they understand a human’s love for them?
