They're all grown up—it's time to start treating, and feeding, them that way. Just because they're older, however, doesn't mean they're completely self-sufficient. Adult cats have nutritional needs particular to their life stage just as kittens and senior cats do, and they need your help to meet them. The CatChow.com Adult Care Center will clue you in on what you need to know.

Mentor Q & A

My cat sometimes munches on my Mexican Lavender plant. There doesn't seem to be any immediate effects, but are there any long term ones?
My cat loves to chew on anything, like cardboard, paper, leather chairs. What do I do? Is he lacking some vitamin?
I have observed two of my farm cats licking at loose soil in the yard and apparently eating small quantities. Why would they do this?
Why does my cat occasionally lie down next to her food bowl and eat lying down? She looks too cute.
I have found that my cat likes to eat and rub her face in my Oregano plant. Is this harmful? Also does it give them the same affect as Cat Nip would?
Why do my eight-week-old kittens lick the dirt?
Is it harmful for my cat to eat an occasional gecko lizard or beetle? She enjoys hunting and eating anything that moves. She's eaten spiders, small beetles, 2 geckos, and tried to eat a cockroach before. Should I let her hunt and eat what she pleases or try to intervene?
When our cat eats she sometimes scoops the food out of her bowl with her paw and puts the food in her mouth. Other times she simply eats right out of the bowl. Can you explain why she might be eating with her ‘hands’?
Why does my kitten, 8 weeks old, want to eat cat litter? It doesn't matter what kind. I have gone to shredded paper and he leaves it alone.
I have a lot of bowls of oat grass that were given to me from a friend. When I grow it, my male cat, Moses, goes wild. He cries for it and bugs me until I get it down from where ever I put it and give it to him. Why does he like this grass so much? My other 3 don't care about it at all. They are indoor cats. When he eats it he goes after it with a hardy appetite. He seems very healthy and has a great appetite; he also drinks enough water. He isn't sick is he? I always heard eating grass was an indication of illness.
