They're all grown up—it's time to start treating, and feeding, them that way. Just because they're older, however, doesn't mean they're completely self-sufficient. Adult cats have nutritional needs particular to their life stage just as kittens and senior cats do, and they need your help to meet them. The CatChow.com Adult Care Center will clue you in on what you need to know.

Mentor Q & A

My friend's cat has been diagnosed with feline leukemia. What causes this and is there a cure?
I have had my cat, Valeria, for 2 years. When she was a kitten, she was diagnosed with feline leukemia. I was just wondering if there has been any breakthroughs in diagnosing which kind of leukemia she has (whether she’ll carry it and never be affected or whether she’ll die in a couple of years, etc.) I hate having to wonder if she’ll have the long life she deserves. Do you know if there are any products or cat foods that would help promote a healthier immune system in her? Please help me.
I do foster care for a local pet organization and we recently had a mother cat and two kittens come back negative for feline leukemia but 3 kittens came back positive. How can this occur?
Is feline leukemia contagious to humans?
Is there a particular age-range during which cats with leukemia become more susceptible to infection or illness? The cat in question is a young, indoor animal with no contact with other cats.
What diet is best for my FeLV+ kitten (age 6 1/2 months)? What nutritional percentages should I look for (i.e. fat, protein)?
A friend of mine just found out her cat has feline leukemia and I was wondering can she spread it to my cats if by petting her cat then coming to my home and petting mine.
