They're all grown up—it's time to start treating, and feeding, them that way. Just because they're older, however, doesn't mean they're completely self-sufficient. Adult cats have nutritional needs particular to their life stage just as kittens and senior cats do, and they need your help to meet them. The CatChow.com Adult Care Center will clue you in on what you need to know.

How To Help A Depressed Cat
 Can Cats Become Depressed?

Mentor Q & A

I had to put one of my cats to sleep. My other cat is howling, not eating and sleeps a lot more. What can I do to help him adjust to his loss?
My cat 'pouts' at me since I went on a week's vacation. How can I win back his trust?
Do animals go through any kind of pain when they see/smell their relatives (who come to the screen door) after being rescued from the neighborhood?
I have had 2 male cats since they were kittens. One was killed a year ago and we have gone through the depression and seem to be doing better. How do I know if my cat would like feline companionship?
My sister has two Siamese cat siblings, approximately 3 & 4 years old. In September she was given two budgies as gifts. Now the cats aren’t allowed in her room. They don’t get as much attention, they aren’t as active as they use to be and are eating three times as much. I live in the same household, and they have become aggressive with my two cats. How can I explain to her how the changes and lack of attention affect her cats emotionally and physically?
We had to put our 10-year-old cat to sleep and we are concerned how to help his brother understand what has happened. They had been together their entire lives.
How long should one wait after the loss of a very dear pet before getting another? My cat was 15 year old and dearly loved.
My cat keeps separating itself from the rest of my cats and just sits and meows for a while, stops, starts again, and continues to stop and start. After a while it begins to worry me. I think it's because one of my other cats died a month and 4 days ago and they were very close. Could it just not be affecting him? I care about him very much, he's like my baby, is there any way I can help him?
My husband wants to go away for three days and not have anyone "Kitty Sit." To date, the two young cats (8 mos./14 mos.) have only been left overnight. I just am not comfortable with this idea. What kind of trauma will we inflict upon the cats by leaving them alone that long?
I am going to be away from my home for 2-1/2 weeks and am worried about my outside cat. She is a very faithful cat and waits for me to get home every night by my front door. We spend a few hours together everyday. I feed her and then put her back outside. I am concerned that she will be depressed or think I have abandoned her when I leave. She is a very affectionate cat but only to me and is extremely timid around other people. I have a friend who will be coming to check on both the house and the cat when I am gone. He is one of the few people that she has allowed to pet her. Is there anything I can do for her before I go?
