They're all grown up—it's time to start treating, and feeding, them that way. Just because they're older, however, doesn't mean they're completely self-sufficient. Adult cats have nutritional needs particular to their life stage just as kittens and senior cats do, and they need your help to meet them. The CatChow.com Adult Care Center will clue you in on what you need to know.

Mentor Q & A

How do I deal with the death of my cat?
I have a brother/sister combo that are 2 years old. The female (Bonnie) has disappeared and been gone for 4 nights. I have everyone in my neighborhood, the animal shelter, and the vet looking for her but no luck yet. My male cat (Clyde) is having a hard time. There's no finality to it, he just keeps looking for her. I'm giving him a great deal of attention. Sleeping is the hardest time. They slept together in my laundry room. Clyde can't sleep with me or I won't get any sleep, but if I put him in the laundry room he cries all night (I still can't sleep). I thought that having the bed they slept in together would help him (familiar smells etc.) What can I do to help him--they've never been apart.
Our cat (Emma) and our dog (Jake) are both 12 years old. Our son is 5 years old. We fear that in the next 6 months we will have to put both to sleep. They both are going downhill. Especially Jake who is a collie mix. How do we explain this to our son and how do we alleviate our own feelings of guilt? Please help. It is always on my mind.
