They're all grown up—it's time to start treating, and feeding, them that way. Just because they're older, however, doesn't mean they're completely self-sufficient. Adult cats have nutritional needs particular to their life stage just as kittens and senior cats do, and they need your help to meet them. The CatChow.com Adult Care Center will clue you in on what you need to know.

Mentor Q & A

Are there any types of cats that are better for people with allergies than others?
What can I do to keep cats and prevent my wife from having an allergic reaction to them?
Can cats be affected by the changes in seasons and react like people do with allergies?
What are the symptoms of allergic rhinitis in cats? My cat has difficulty breathing through his right nostril and the vet thinks he might have allergies.
Can cats be allergic to humans the way we can be allergic to them?
Can cats have allergies with sneezing?
My younger cat, Princess, seems, like the rest of my family, to have multiple allergies. I know that she is allergic to fish, but I am wondering if she might be allergic to corn. Is this a known allergen in cats? Is there any way that she can be tested for allergies, such as a RASD test in humans?
My 1-1/2 year old cat just had his rabies and distemper shots. I now feel a small, pea sized lump (possibly two) near the first injection site. Could he have developed a tumor as a reaction to the shot? Is this serious requiring medical attention, or will it go away on its own? How concerned should I be? He had his first round of shots a year ago, just before I adopted him, so I don't know if he had a reaction then too.
Can cats have allergies to fleas?
We have two 3 year old indoor cats and we moved into a house last summer where the previous owner had 2 indoor/outdoor male cats who had urinated all over the house. We removed all the carpet from the main floor, but only had the carpets steam-cleaned in the basement. Is there any chance of our cats "picking up" something from the previous cats? I haven't noticed any signs of fleas/worms, but are there other things that can linger in carpets, etc. after the previous cats are gone?
Are cats allergic to bee stings?
